The countdown is on: The date for the Hamburg Cruise Days 2022 has been set
It’s an announcement that will delight cruise lovers: finally, the date for the next Hamburg Cruise Days has been set. From Friday the 19th until Sunday the 21st of August 2022, the port of Hamburg will once again be devoted to a celebration of cruises.
The Hamburg Cruise Days are probably the most vibrant and popular public event in the European cruise scene, if not the world. Around 500,000 visitors enjoyed the last Hamburg Cruise Days in 2019, where the waterfront was transformed into a maritime promenade, there were culinary highlights, fabulous entertainment and, of course, the ships themselves as the shining stars. Now, the event is returning the Elbe river, a clear sign that the cruise port Hamburg is back for business.
Andreas Rieckhof, State Councillor of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Innovation of the City of Hamburg: “In a little less than a year, Hamburg once again becomes the centre of the cruise industry for a whole weekend. For us, this is about more than putting on a fascinating event with spectacular images. It is also about reinforcing and showcasing the innovative power of the maritime industry and, by doing so, helping the cruise sector to become more environmentally sustainable.”
The organisers Uwe Bergmann (uba) and Katja Derow (redroses communications) are optimistic about next year’s event: “We are even more delighted that we have been able to schedule the event in August, which was our number one choice”, says Katja Derow. “Not only does this mean that we can hope for better weather, but it is also far more convenient for families who can visit our beautiful city in the summer holidays.”
Michael Otremba, Managing Director of Hamburg Tourismus GmbH, emphasises the significance of the event for the tourism sector: “There is great interest in the Hamburg Cruse Days from cruise fans and also the travel industry, which is a strong indication of the enormous appeal of both Hamburg and the very special atmosphere in the port during the Hamburg Cruise Days.”
A year in advance of the event, negotiations with sponsors and partners are already in full swing, including with lighting artist Michael Batz, who has presented the Blue Port illuminations at the event in previous years. “For the event next year, we hope to again secure the support of numerous sponsors, and especially cruise lines which make such an enormous contribution to the appeal of the event with their ships and their showcases on land”, says Uwe Bergmann. “As well as providing first-rate entertainment, as the organisers we believe in using the Hamburg Cruise Days to provide inspiration for issues that move the industry and the city”, says Bergmann. “In 2022, the event will again provide a powerful forum for dialogue.”
Katja Derow adds: “We promise the people of Hamburg and all visitors to the city a magical, state-of-the-art event, with a clear emphasis on safety and hygiene. Our aim is to ensure that the Hamburg Cruise Days 2022 are an unforgettable, joyous event!”
